with Du Bois' theory of double consciousness. Those results yield to the significance role of
African American spirituals as creative means of expressing their struggles and addressing their
issues through encoded signals within the movement. Consequently, these spiritual practices
have a profound impact on African Americans who have endured years of suppression and
persecution of their black identity.
