dc.description.abstract | rights movement through shedding light on its active role in promoting and preserving the original cultural identity of enslaved Africans. In this respect, both aspects of spirituals and the movement were inspected via revaluating the existing body of literature, in the theoretical chapter. That proceeds with practical chapter; wherein, the underlying correlations between the nature of spirituals and the movement have been investigated using analytical techniques along with Du Bois' theory of double consciousness. Those results yield to the significance role of African American spirituals as creative means of expressing their struggles and addressing their issues through encoded signals within the movement. Consequently, these spiritual practices have a profound impact on African Americans who have endured years of suppression and persecution of their black identity.
