Abstract
Rhantherium suaveolens was detailed in the study as a member of the Asteraceae
family, and its various chemical properties and biological activities were evaluated for its
potential use in alternative and complementary medicine. Here are the highlights of what
was discussed and discovered in the study.
In this experiment, we prepared the methanolic extract, where in this experiment we
prepared the methanolic extract in return we also recorded a yield of 20.68%, followed by
chemical detection which showed the presence of various secondary metabolic compounds
in the whole plant with varying values, tertiary terpenes, alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids and
polyphenols with the absence of saponins, followed by quantification of polyphenols,
flavonoids and tannins. The quantification of polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins in the
methanolic extract showed the highest amount of polyphenols (g/mg 0.51 ± 34.84) and
flavonoids (2.22 ± 0.075mg/g). while dragons were estimated at 4.09 ± 0.28 mg/g.).
In evaluating the antioxidant activity of the extract, we relied on the DPPH and FRAP
methods, where it was observed that a significant antioxidant activity was recorded using the
studied extract, as the inhibition rate of free radicals in the extract was recorded at values of
mg/ml () 0.62 ± 0.002 =IC50 (for DPPH), while in the FRAP assay it was 58.37%. On the
other hand, the anticoagulant activity was studied by performing the following coagulation
tests (TP, TCK, Fibrinogéne), where the TP results were high levels estimated at 81.53% for
the extract compared to the control, while the TCK results show (34.54s). Fibrinogène was
g/l2.58, indicating that the extract is able to prolong the level of fibrinogen. The in vitro
anti-inflammatory activity of the extract was evaluated by disrupting the secondary structure
of egg albumin protein, and the results indicated that the extract possesses a protein
denaturation rate reducing activity, where the extract possesses a protein denaturation rate
reducing activity. Regarding the antimicrobial activity, the results showed significant
activity against various tested strains, where the greatest activity was on Pseudomonas
aeruginosa with an inhibition diameter of 27±0.57mm at concentration D100mg where
statistical analysis showed no significant difference between this result and the inhibition
obtained by the antibiotic GN 50, also the methanolic extract showed good results on
Escherichia coli and Staphylocoque aureus strains, and the methanolic extract showed good
results on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
