Political Narratives in the Media Statement of the Palestinian-Zionist War: A Comparative Study between Army Official Spokesmen

Abstract

This thesis provides an analysis of the official speeches of Abu Oubeida (the spokesperson for Hamas) and Avichai Adraee (the spokesperson for the Israeli Occupation Defense Forces) during the 2021 Gaza War. The study used Van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) model to examine how both spokesmen construct their statements to influence public opinion and reinforce political ideologies. The analysis reveals how each one uses language to justify their actions and denounce the opponent. It is found that both of them used similar linguistic and ideological strategies, but the speech of Abu Oubeida is more authentic and influential because his arguments are based on real historical background and strong political ideologies. The study highlights the role of language as a strategic tool in reporting war stories and the implications of discourse in justifying military action.
