dc.description.abstractSandy soil is very poor soil of plant nutrients as well as microorganisms that contribute to plant growth such as bacteria. So, our research aims to assess the effect of biochar on potato plant and sandy soil in the Oued Souf region. The experiment was carried out on a private farm at Guemar city from February to May 2022 under green house. A biochar was made from palm date residues using barrel technique and then manually grinded. The biochar then mixed with poultry manure at different proportions 10,20,30 and 40 %. The mixtures were applied into the soil according to the design of the experience .We planted potato tubers at rate 6 for each treatment. We have noted a positive impact of biochar on the physical, chemicals and biological soil characteristics. The percentage of moisture level in each treatment has a percentage of biochar was increased by biochar treatment especially in T4 where the humidity was 90%. It modified pH of soil, so biochar reduced the pH value in the soil to 7 in T4. As it reduced the salinity level in all treatment with biochar T4, T2 and T1 except T3. Biochar has also increased the biological activity of bacteria and fungi in correlation with the biochar rate applied. A significant positive effect on the arieal part of the plant was observed in plants treated with biochar. However, for the underground parts, the effect of biochar was not significant.en_US
