Abstract

Summary of the study: The aim of this study is to uncover the relationship between satisfaction with the academic specialty and self-esteem among the first year students of social sciences at Shaheed Hama Lakhdar University in El-Oued. The study was conducted on a sample of (95) students from the first year level of Social Sciences students, we use a randomly simple way in this choice ,with the help of data collection tools, which were: criterion of satisfaction with the specialty (Dalia Youssef 2008) ,Self-esteem measure (Cooper Smith) after confirming their validity (truthfulness and stability ),and the descriptive correlational approach. has been used in this study . The data were treated by using the statistical processing program SPSS(2014) and which is: arithmetic mean, standard deviation, Pearson correlation coefficient . The results of the study were: - There is a correlational relationship of statistical significance between the satisfaction with the academic specialty and self-esteem among students in the first year of social sciences. -There is a significant correlation between the satisfaction with the academic specialty and self-esteem among males in the first year of social sciences. - There is a correlational relationship of statistical significance between the satisfaction with the academic specialty and self-esteem among females in the first year of social sciences.
