دراسة الفعالية البيولوجية لمستخلصات بعض النباتات المستعملة في طب الشعبي لعلاج مرض السكري

Abstract

This work aimed to study the biological activity of some plant extracts used in folk medicine to treat diabetes, three medicinal plants types were chosen: Olea europaea and Apium graveolens L. grown in wadi souf, and Artemisia herba alba from Batna. The aqueous and methanolic extracts were prepared by maceration, followed by a chemical test that showed the presence of most of the secondary metabolites. On the other hand, the yield of each extract was recorded. The higest percentage has been showed with the aqueous extract of Artemisia herba alba and Olea europaea at 8%. Secondly, the quantification of polyphenols and flavonoids in the aqueous and methanolic extracts were carried out. The results showed the highest amount of polyphenols in the methanolic extracts of olive leaves. was estimated to be 236.23±0.351 mg EAG/g EP , and flavonoids in Artemisia herba alba was estimated

Third, with regard to biological activity, the extracts of the studied medicinal plants showed activity against 3 bacterial straines (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus), where the results were positive with the extracts of olive leaf plants Olea europaea and Artemisia herba alba, Which showed mixed results depends of bacterial strain. Finally, through experiments conducted on male albino mice with induced diabetes mellitus experimental, it was reached through the qualitative identification of the most important active substances present at the level of Olea europaea , which had the ability to reduce blood sugar levels .
