Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of irrigation with magnetized water on the chemical content of Citrulus lanatus fruits grown in El Oued region, a comparison was made between the nutritional value content for the seeds, pulp, and peels of Citrulus lanatus fruits irrigated with magnetized water with those not irrigated with magnetized water. The phenolic content and anti-activity was also determined by using DPPH• test for methanolic extract of the same samples. The results showed an increase in the nutrient content as a result of irrigation with magnetized water. Where the fruit pulp showed the best content of Carbohydrates, Proteins and Lipid (491.4, 45.2 and 13.9 mg/g), respectively. It also showed that there is a closeness between the samples of the two treatments at the yield of extraction, where the pulp of the fruits irrigated with magnetized water had the highest extraction yield by more than 80%. However, irrigation with magnetized water did not show any effect on the phenolic content between the samples, where it was between 50.6 and 73.6 µgEAG/mgE. The fruit parts that were not irrigated with magnetized water also recorded the best IC50 values (2.18 and 0.5 mg/ml in the pulp and peel, respectively) in DPPH• test
