The United States military intervention in Iraq has always been a controversial and debatable subject especially as the American - Iraqi relation was too tumultuous and bad prior to the invasion. The current study aims to reveal the actual causes that led America to invade Iraq and highlights the consequences of the American military operation on Iraq and its people. Regarding research methodology, the historical method was adopted by using description, statistics, and analysis to accurately analyze key drivers that were taken by the decision makers in the United States to intervene in Iraq. As for the main results reached, the causes of the military intervention were to plunder Iraqi oil and to overthrow Saddam Hussein's regime. The consequences of this invasion were ruining infrastructure, insecurity, the rise of sectarian and racial disputes among the Iraqis, an increase in the rates of crimes, and the escape of businessmen and brain drain.en_US
