Abstract

This article tackles Tunisia's political relations with Algeria between the years 1782 and 1814 A.D. This period represented the rule of Bey Hamouda Pasha in Tunisia thanks to which the Tunisian state regained its place on the international scene through a set of reforms that touched all levels. This came after a period of political crises and power struggles that negatively affected the image of Tunisia in the Maghreb region and the international arena. Political relations with Algeria during his reign took another course that reached the point of dealing equivalently with its rulers and declaring war against them, while his predecessors were in a state of almost subordination to the government of Algeria because of the role that the latter played in recovering the rule of Tunisia by his uncle Mohammed Bin Hussein Bey from Ali Pasha in the year 1756 AD.
