Abstract

Psychiatric psychology plays a crucial role in understanding and enhancing the process of language learning and instruction. While traditional language acquisition research has focused primarily on cognitive and linguistic factors, the integration of psychological and psychiatric perspectives offers new insights into how mental health, neurological conditions, and emotional well-being influence language learning. This article explores the contributions of psychiatric psychology to language acquisition, focusing on how various mental health issues—such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorder—can affect language learners' cognitive, emotional, and social abilities. It examines the neurological underpinnings of language learning, particularly the role of brain plasticity, working memory, and emotional regulation. Furthermore, it highlights the application of psychological theories, such as motivation, cognitive-behavioral approaches, and individualized learning strategies, in language teaching. Through these interdisciplinary insights, the article presents practical methods for creating inclusive and supportive language learning environments that cater to the diverse needs of learners, especially those with mental health challenges. Ultimately, this article advocates for a more holistic approach to language teaching, one that recognizes the importance of mental health in facilitating effective language acquisition and instruction.
