Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of agricultural activity and production systems in the Oued Righ region. An exploratory study was conducted using a questionnaire among farmers engaged in agricultural production in the oases. A random sample of farmers was taken, and the study focused on understanding the characteristics of farmers, the nature of agricultural activity in the region, and the difficulties and obstacles they face. The study included different areas in Oued Righ, located in the M'Ghair and Touggourt provinces, through a survey distributed among farmers in several municipalities. The results indicate that the youth show a significant interest in agricultural activity, and the educational level of farmers suggests the potential for improving their skills and knowledge in agriculture, which can contribute to enhancing productivity and quality in the agricultural sector. The region experiences limited development in agricultural production and production system improvement. This is partially attributed to the significant concentration of agricultural land in small values, limiting the economic and commercial potential of the agricultural sector and hindering the realization of large-scale production and agricultural trade opportunities. However, there is a desire and direction to invest in vast areas to increase productivity, diversify crops, and provide employment and income opportunities. A subsistence and family farming pattern prevails in the region instead of a commercial investment pattern, due to specific social, cultural, and economic factors in the area. To change this pattern and expand agricultural areas, efforts should be directed towards education, awareness, and providing support and financing to farmers. Further-more, the marketing and distribution structure needs to be developed to facilitate the marketing of farmers' products. Improving irrigation systems and utilizingmodern and enhanced irrigation techniques should be confirm to increase water efficiency and reduce waste. Enhancing security and regulatory measures to protect agricultural properties and achieve sustainability and economic benefits require educational and awareness efforts to inform farmers about the advantages of a commercial investment pattern and modern agricultural technologies. Support and financing should also be provided to expand agricultural areas and invest in modern agricultural equipment and techniques.
