Abstract
This work explores the technical evolution of mobile networks from the first generation (1G)
to the prospective seventh generation (7G), with a focus on Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces
(RIS) and Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA). It analyzes the performance of
RIS-NOMA systems in complex wireless communication environments, comparing outage
probability, system capacity, and bit error rate (BER) against decode-and-forward (DF) cooperative
NOMA systems. The results demonstrate the superiority of RIS-NOMA, achieving
an outage probability as low as 10−4.4 and a BER of 10−4.8 at 30 dB SNR, particularly with
an increased number of RIS elements. This work highlights implementation challenges, such
as interference cancellation complexity and energy consumption, and provides recommendations
for design optimization and future research. This work offers valuable insights into the
role of emerging technologies in shaping the future of wireless communications.
