Abstract

Proverbs are the memory of nations and a precious resource that must be preserved. They are the free expression of the experiences and aspirations of these nations and the reflective mirror of their emotions over time. A proverb embodies the wisdom of the people, reflecting their suffering, hardship, happiness, and human relations throughout history. These concise, expressive sentences are rich with wisdom and profound meanings. No nation is without its proverbs, which are passed down from generation to generation. In the Wadi Souf region, proverbs elevate to the status of wisdom, becoming proverbial wisdom. Through our study of these proverbs, it became clear that they encompass all areas of life, including religious aspects related to doctrine and worship, as well as ethical and social aspects that reflect the behaviors of individuals within the community. These proverbs convey valuable dimensions that illustrate how individuals interact within the collective framework, improve their behavior, and influence others. In this research, we examined the values and dimensions embodied in these proverbs, as well as their functional dimensions, including educational and critical functions. We also explored the argumentative functions of persuasion and influence, along with the aesthetic and rhetorical functions, which add beauty and linguistic eloquence. Additionally, we addressed the artistic and linguistic aesthetic aspects of these proverbs.
