A Critical Analysis of the Socio-Political Events in the US during Trump’s Term as Depicted in the Simpsons’ Situation Comedy

Abstract

يعتبر مسلسل الرسوم الهزلي "الكوميدي" أطول سلسلة أمريكية وأكثرها شهرة. اشتهر المسلسل بتنبؤاته للأحداث المستقبلية. الهدف من هذه الدراسة هو تحديد ما إذا كان مسلسل "عائلة سيمبسون" له القدرة على التنبؤ بالأحداث المستقبلية أو أن كتاب هذا المسلسل قادرون على التنبؤ بالأحداث قبل وقوعها. إضافة إلى أنه يدرس العلاقة بين الأحداث التي تم تصويرها وعرضها في العرض والأخرى التي حدثت في الواقع أثناء عهدة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب. تستخدم الدراسة منهجية تحليل المحتوى النوعي من خلال تحليل أربع حلقات من المسلسل وتحليل المحتوى لدراسة الأحداث المتعلقة بالموضوع. أستخدم المؤشر البصري كمنهج بحثي لتسجيل جميع الأحداث المهمة من أجل فهم كل وحدة. تظهر نتائج التحليل أن مسلسل عائلة سيمبسون هو محاكاة لأسلوب الحياة الأمريكي. كما أظهرت الدراسة أن الأحداث التي زعمت أنها تنبأت بالمستقبل لم تكن دقيقة ولا تتطابق مع الأحداث الحقيقية. The Simpsons are the longest-running and most popular American animated sitcom series. The show became famous for predicting future events. This study aims to determine if the Simpsons situation comedy could accurately predict future events by chance or if the show's writers could know about events before they happened in real life. It examined the relationship between the events depicted in the Simpsons and occurred in real life during Trump’s presidency. A qualitative content analysis approach was employed to analyse four episodes of Simpson’s series that showcased the events selected to test the hypothesis of predicting events. A visual indicator was utilised as a research technique to record all significant events to understand every unit of analysis. The analysis showed that Simpsons simulates the American lifestyle; it satirises social and political issues. In addition, the study showed that the events that claimed to be future predictions were inaccurate and did not resemble the actual events.
