    التاريخ المحلي جزء من الكتابة التاريخية، التي لم تعد ضامرة، غير أن الرواية الشفوية آلية من آليات التاريخ المحلي، ومن هنا يمكننا البحث عن موقع الرواية الشفوية من هذا النوع، خاصة أن المجتمعات العربية ما لبثت أن تركن إلى عدم الكتابة، رغم ما شهدته القرون الوسطى، التي تميز فيها المجتمع العربي الإسلامي من تفوق حضاري كانت القراءة والكتابة من أهم مكانيزمات التحضر، لكن بحلول القرون الحديثة تراجع المجتمع العربي عن الريادة فحلت الرواية الشفوية محل الكتابة، مما جعل التاريخ يشهد محطات فراغ لم ولن يعوضها إلا الرواية الشفوية.
