    ANTIMICROBIAL PROPERTIES OF CARBON NANOTUBE: A SUCCINCT ASSESSMENT

    Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) particularly single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) have been used in pharmacy and medicine for drug delivery systems in therapeutics since the beginning of the twenty-first century. Because carbon nanotubes have demonstrated the ability to transport a wide range of chemicals across membranes and into living cells, they have piqued interest in medicinal applications such as improved imaging, antimicrobial agents, tissue regeneration, and medication or gene delivery. Despite the abundance of evidence demonstrating the benefits of CNTs in terms of higher efficacy and fewer side effects, numerous recent studies have revealed unanticipated toxicities caused by CNTs. CNTs have recently gained a lot of attention for their antibacterial properties. The antimicrobial properties of carbon nanotubes, as well as their toxicity, are summarized and discussed in this mini review.

    CONTRIBUTION TO THE COMPARATIVE STUDY OF WATER QUALITY OF DIFFERENT AQUIFERS IN THE EL OUED REGION (SOUF)

    The aquifer system in the El-Oued region consists of three aquifers: the unconfined aquifer (phreatic), and two confined aquifers (the terminal complex aquifer and the interlayer continental aquifer). These aquifers are considered as a single water resource available in this region. Despite this wealth, the quality of these waters remains generally mediocre to bad quality. The contribution to the comparative study of the physico-chemical quality of waters from different aquifers in the Souf region reveals, in general, high mineralization (mainly originating from the geological nature of the surrounding formations) decreasing with depth, and exceeding the standards recommended by the WHO. Therefore, strict criteria must be demanded to improve the chemical quality of water and ensure its potability according to national and international standards before supplying it to consumers.

    STUDY OF THE MECHANICAL PERFORMANCE OF THERMALLY TREATED MARINE SEDIMENTS ON CEMENTITIOUS PRODUCTS

    The objective of this inquiry is twofold: firstly, the harnessing of this prodigious quantity of refuse, and secondly, to assess the mechanical efficacy of these sediments in cementitious formulations. The valorization of marine sediments treated at temperature 700°C in cementitious products was carried out in order to evaluate the behavior of cement mortar during the substitution of cement by different concentrations of marine sediments. During the mortar preparation process, marine sediments treated with three different substitution rates (10%, 20%, 30%) of CEM I 52.5 Portland cement were used to replace an equivalent volume of cement. The experimental results show that calcination at a temperature of 700°C with a concentration of 10% gives better results and gives a cement compound with better mechanical properties.

    SOIL DENSITY EFFECTS ON COMPRESSIBILITY AND EXPANSION BEHAVIOR

    Soil compressibility and swelling are key properties for the design and long-term performance evaluation of geotechnical structures. These deformation parameters directly influence the stability, settlements, and deformations of foundations, embankments, and retaining structures. Soil density is an essential parameter controlling deformation properties, particularly compression and swelling indices. Although widely studied, this relationship sometimes remains controversial, particularly for fine-grained cohesive soils. This research aims to further investigate the influence of density on Cc and Cs for an extended range of soils with low to high fines content. An experimental campaign of consolidation tests was carried out on clay sand mixtures undergoing an imposed stress path. The results of this study reveal a negative correlation between compressibility and fines content, contrasted by a positive relationship with swelling. These contradictory findings are attributed to the predominant effect of density.
