Abstract

This study aims to show the foundations of applying governance in the insurance sector. we apply this on Algerian insurance companies. To realize our work, we use a questionnaire to collect data, and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS.V26) to analyze it. The study shows that the the board of directors plays a good role in the governance in Algerian insurance companies. On the contrary, the effective governance system is weakly adopted. It also shows the ineffectiveness of the supervisory body in monitoring the risks of insurance companies, and the weak commitment to the requirements of disclosure and transparency. The study recommends the adoption of a reference governance system for Algerian insurance companies to apply governance principles, activating the role of the Supervisory Authority in monitoring qualitative risks. It also recommends obligating insurance companies to expand the disclosed information, publish it on their website, and update it periodically
