Abstract
The French scholar Pierre Bourdieu enriched contemporary sociology with a set of procedural
concepts through which he attempted to present an overall theory with a conceptual device in order to
understand and interpret social reality when practicing the sociological research. He focused on the way
society reproduces the same class hierarchy by focusing on the cultural and symbolic factors instead of
stressing on the economic elements that enjoyed considerable importance to the classical Marxist
approach, and made sociological practice an effective tool for radical criticism to reveal the hidden factors
and interrogate the unspoken ideas.
Pierre Bourdieu adopted a set of sociological concepts in his research, which –in turn-had an
impact on many philosophical & sociology schools. Through this research paper, we seek to identify the
concept of Habitus, which links action to the structure of society within the framework of its formation
and gives priority to the actor and the social structure alike. This paper tries as well identify the meaning of
this central concept “Habitus” and determine its origins, dimensions and classifications by focusing on the
general lexical significance of this word, as well as determining its sociological connotations in order to
understand the social action and to identify this concept in sociological research in order to deeply explain
its special implications in the sociological texts of Pierre Bourdieu.
