Abstract

Aristolochia is a medicinal plant of the family Aristolochiaceae, used in traditional medicine, the qualitative analysis of the extracts is estimated by a chemical screening, which revealed the presence of certain phenolic compounds, the total polyphenol content was determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu method. The antioxidant activity was evaluated using two different tests: the DPPH test and the FRAP test. For the first IC50 is estimated graphically, for the second the increase in Absorbance revealed a high antioxidant activity of the ethanolic extract. The antimicrobial activity was determined on three bacterial strains according tothe disk diffusion method, exhibited by ethanolic extract on E. coli, P. aeruginosa and Streptococcus.
