Investigating the Development of the American Political Parties during the Antebellum Period

This dissertation investigates the development of American political parties during the Antebellum period, a critical era marked by profound social, economic, and political transformations. The study aims to elucidate how these changes influenced the formation and evolution of the political party system in the United States. This research was undertaken to address gaps in existing scholarship that often overlooks the broader trends and reforms shaping party dynamics. Utilizing a historical research methodology, the study relies on primary sources such as historical documents, alongside secondary sources including scholarly books and journal articles. The analysis is both descriptive and analytical, providing a comprehensive narrative of events and their significance. The first chapter examines the Antebellum era's manifestations and reforms, including the expansion of suffrage, economic developments, and social movements. The second chapter delves into the political party system during this period, analyzing the emergence of parties, their platforms, and their responses to key issues like slavery and states' rights. The study concludes that the Antebellum period was pivotal in shaping the modern American political landscape, with the formation of new parties and ideologies that continue to influence contemporary politics.
