Item Culture Teaching In Foreign Language Education: Theoretical Foundations And Pedagogical Implications(جامعة الوادي - University of Eloued, 2021-11-06) Ghedeir, Brahim MohammedThe current research work focuses on an investigation carried out in the University of El- Oued, Algeria about EFL university teachers’ perceptions of their culture teaching practice as mediators of language and culture in the foreign language class. The study' s main purpose is to outline the main concepts, principles, and approaches regarding culture in English language teaching. This study focuses on what should be taught about culture in English language teaching. In order to achieve the above stated aims and objectives, a questionnaire targeting twenty English teachers was used as a data gathering tool. A multi-method approach that involved both quantitative and qualitative research methods is adopted in this research work project. Triangulation of sources and methods is also used in order to secure the validity and reliability of the research. The findings of this study serve as a guide in enhancing intercultural competence teaching in foreign language education.Item The Impact Of Genre-based Instruction On English Writing Performance: Theoretical Foundations And Practical Implications(جامعة الوادي - university of Eloued, 2022-03-30) Ghedeir, Brahim Mohammed; Naoua, MohammedEnglish language writing is a complex, time-consuming activity that requires concentration, effort, and persistence. In line with the advancements in language teaching, teaching English writing has its own approaches, namely the product, process, and genre approaches. Genre-based approach is considered to be a solution to writing deficiencies by making provision for the social aspect of writing including English varieties and conventional lexico-grammatical practices. However, the contribution of genre-based approach in enhancing EFL writers` writing performance is still under question. Thus, the present study aims to investigate the impact of genre-based instruction on EFL students` writing proficiency. The research setting was the written expression course for second year students of English at the University of El-Oued, Algeria. The participants in the study were sixty (60) students who practiced writing two different genres of writing: the paragraph and the essay. The findings of the study revealed that genre-based instruction has a positive impact on EFL learners` writing performance.Item Investigating The Impact Of Pragmatics On Communicative Competence Models: A Historical-descriptive Study(جامعة الوادي - University of Eloued, 2022-06-03) Naoua, Mohammed; Ghedeir, Brahim MohammedThis study attempts to explore the role of pragmatics in reinforcing the process of discourse production and comprehension. The paper starts with the delimitation of the scope of pragmatics and the identification of its main constituents, such as implicature, presupposition, speech acts, the context of situation, reference, deixis, and entailments. Then, it turns to the description of the way in which pragmatics has gradually been incorporated in three significant communicative competence models. In doing so, this paper incorporates the techniques of the historical-descriptive methods. The results of the study revealed that the integration of pragmatic elements in language analysis/teaching could contribute to the comprehension of speaker's/writer's implicated meaning.Item The Linguistic Features of Advertising English(جامعة الوادي - University of Eloued, 2022-02-02) Ghedeir, Brahim MohammedIn an increasing globalized world, issues relevant to advertising are becoming more important. The effectiveness of advertisements in promoting companies` products has led to the spread of advertising all over the world and a significant amount of this advertising uses English language. This paves the way to the emergence of advertising English that has been considered a variety of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), more specifically of English for Business and Economics (EBE) because of its economic content and purpose. English for advertising has very specific linguistic and discursive features that show that advertising English is a particular genre of specialized discourse. Thus, the aim of this study is to analyze the language of advertising in English in order to identify the different linguistic and discursive specificities of advertising English. For that aim, the current study selected a sample of advertising English texts. This article ends up with presenting the different key linguistic and discursive features of English for advertising.
