Phytochemical screening and antibacterial activity of both the extract and cream formulation of date seeds
(جامعة الوادي university of eloued, 2024) Ahmedi Ines; Benhamed Abir; Kired Manal
In this study, the ethanolic and aqueous extract of date pits was tested to prepare a natural antibiotique cream. Initially, we studied the qualitative and quantitative chemical properties of date pits: Qualitative showed that they contain polyphenols, alkaloids, flavonoids, flavonoids, tannins, saponines, anthocyanins, and terpenoids. The quantity on polyphenols for the ethanolic extract (105.146±22.68 mg EAG/g E), and the aqueous extract (77.66±16.72 mg EAG/g E). Flavonoid in the ethanolic extract (27.76±0.82 mg EQ/g E) and (26.37±0.63 mg EQ/g E) in the aqueous extract. Hydrolyzable tannins in the ethanolic extract (133.44 ± 11.89 mg ETA/g E) and in the aqueous extract (101.64 ± 5.4 mg ETA/g E). Condensed Tannins (51.62 ± 5.13 mg CE/g E) of ethanolic dry extract to (24.80 ± 1.81 mg CE/g E) of aqueous dry extract. In addition, it showed good antioxidant activity analyzed by two methods: Dpph and Frap . The HPLC chromatography and antibacterial activity tests proved that the ethanolic extract contained significant phenolic compounds and was able to fight bacteria. This extract was combined with secondary compounds that include: Sesame oil and beeswax. The efficacy of the cream was proven by its antibacterial activity. Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA), Escherichia coli (EC), Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP), Staphylococcus aureus (SA), and Bacillus subtilis (BS)).
