    The State of Human Rights in the United States after 9/11 Attacks

    The current study aims at investigating the state of human rights in America after 9/11 through the impact of post-9/11 counterterrorism policies and practices on human rights in the U.S. It hypothesizes that the U.S definition of terrorism shapes its counterterrorism strategies which lead to infringements on individual freedoms and constitutional principles. To test the hypotheses, this study opts for qualitative approach and historical method. Correspondingly, the study reveals that post-9/11 policies in the U.S led to significant violations of civil liberties and human rights, including surveillance programs, targeted killings, torture, and rendition of suspects. Despite efforts from civil liberties organizations, Supreme Court cases, and public opinion, the overall impact of these policies on human rights is negative, indicating an erosion of human rights as national security took precedence over individual liberties. تهدف الدراسة الحالية إلى التعرف على حالة حقوق الإنسان في أمريكا بعد 11/9 من خلال تأثير احداث 11/9 على حقوق الإنسان في الولايات المتحدة. تفترض الدراسة أن تعريف الولايات المتحدة للإرهاب يشكل استراتيجياتها لمكافحة الإرهاب التي تؤدي إلى انتهاك الحريات الفردية والمبادئ الدستورية. لاختبار الفرضية، اختارت هذه الدراسة المنهج النوعي والمنهج التاريخي. في المقابل، تكشف الدراسة أن سياسات ما بعد 11 سبتمبر في الولايات المتحدة أدت إلى انتهاكات كبيرة للحريات المدنية وحقوق الإنسان، بما في ذلك برامج المراقبة، وعمليات القتل المستهدف، والتعذيب، وتسليم المشتبه بهم. وعلى الرغم من الجهود التي بذلتها منظمات الحريات المدنية، وقضايا المحكمة العليا، والرأي العام، فإن التأثير الإجمالي لهذه السياسات على حقوق الإنسان كان سلبيًا، مما يشير إلى تآكل حقوق الإنسان حيث أصبح الأمن القومي له الأسبقية على الحريات الفردية.
