These methods confirmed that the studied sand consisted mainly of α-phase quartz (SiO2) by 81%, in addition to a small percentage of calcite (CaCO3) and aluminum oxide Al2O3. Chemical treatment of this sample with hydrochloric acid proved that the acid concentration, temperature, and treatment time had a direct effect on the purity of the quartz mineral-forming sand.
